SECOND CIRCULAR - JUNE 2008
SECOND CIRCULAR
3rd International Workshop
on the Acoustic and Radio EeV Neutrino detection Activities

Hosted by
Physics Department
University Sapienza of Roma
PRESENTATION
ARENA 2008 is the 3rd edition of a workshop dedicated to the detection of Ultra High Energy neutrinos looking for radio or acoustic signals originated as a consequence of their interactions in dense matter. The workshop will be the occasion to bring together experimentalists and theorists to review the present status and the future prospects of Ultra High Energy astrophysical Neutrinos detection.
Several radio detection experiments started already in the last decade of last century and provided limits to EeV cosmic neutrino fluxes.
More recently the acoustic technique, still in an R&D phase, allowed the evaluation of UHE neutrino flux limits with the analysis of signals collected by an acoustic array. Direct production of radio signals by air showers in the atmosphere got new theoretical and experimental interest.
The aim of the Conference is to present the most relevant theoretical and experimental results in the field of high energy cosmic rays, to discuss theoretical prediction of fluxes, and to analyzethe potentialities of new detection techniques.

INTERNET CONNECTIONS AT THE CONFERENCE SITE
We are working to provide for participants to the Conference the possibility to connect to the network with their own personal computers. As a consequence of new laws in Italy, for security reasons, the access to the network can be given only to "identified users" and the "identification" has to be provided by means of an ID document. For these reasons we will request, by e-mail, each registered participant, to provide the mac-address of its own personal computer and a copy of a personal ID document (scanner copy in pdf format).
Participants will be given an account and password to enter the network and will agree to use the net following the usual local and international rules.

FIRST CIRCULAR - JANUARY 2008
FIRST CIRCULAR
3rd International Workshop
on the Acoustic and Radio EeV Neutrino detection Activities

Hosted by
University Sapienza of Roma
ARENA 2008 is the 3rd edition of a workshop dedicated to the detection of Ultra High Energy neutrinos looking for radio or acoustic signals originated as a consequence of their interactions in dense matter. The workshop will be the occasion to bring together experimentalists and theorists to review the present status and the future prospects of Ultra High Energy astrophysical Neutrinos detection.
In 1957 Gurgen A. Askaryan proposed the detection of high energy neutrinos by acoustic signals of thermo-elastic origin due to the energy deposit in a dense medium; later, in 1962, he also proposed to look for coherent radio Cherenkov radiation from the charge excess in a dense particle shower.
First experimental checks of the Thermo-Acoustic Model were performed about 30 years ago, confirming many of its predictions, using high intense proton beams from accelerators. The confirmation of the radio-Cherenkov effect came more recently from dumping an intense photon beam in silica sand.
Several radio detection experiments started nevertheless already in the last decade of last century and provided limits to EeV cosmic neutrino fluxes.
More recently the acoustic technique, still in an R&D phase, allowed the evaluation of UHE neutrino flux limits with the analysis of signals collected by an acoustic array. Direct production of radio signals by air showers in the atmosphere got new theoretical and experimental interest.
Recent results on cosmic rays at extreme energies (HESS, MAGIC, AUGER,
) have increased the interest in UHE astronomy (protons, nuclei, neutrinos,
) beyond the energy window usually covered by existing apparatuses leading to the exploitation of new detection techniques capable to provide huge effective areas.
The aim of the Conference is to present the most relevant theoretical and experimental results in the field of high energy cosmic rays, to discuss theoretical prediction of fluxes, and to analyze the potentialities of new detection techniques.
