An European Design Study for
the construction of a km3-scale astrophysical neutrinos telescope in
the Mediterranean Sea
The
km3 Neutrino Telescope will be the largest particle detector and astronomical
instrument ever constructed.
It will be operating not on land, but in the clear waters of the deep Mediterranean.
Its
missions:
o to detect high energy neutrinos, elusive particles that arrive
undeviated from a multitude of astrophysical sources and may be key to understanding our universe;
o to enhance infrastructure for deep sea scientific observations.
