Conclusions

The probabilistic unfolding procedure gives us the possibility to extract the total cross section $\sigma _{e p}$ from the $F_2$ analisys, obtaining values in agreement with the recent estimates from the ALLM97 parametrisation. This is also a different way to check the $F_2$ analysis' self-consistency.
