Probabilistic Inference and Forecasting in the Sciences (6 credits) (G. D'Agostini) The course will cover th foundamental aspects of probability theory and its application to inference and forecasting, mainly in Physics, although the ideas and methods presented are of general applications in all 'sciences', including e.g. forensic science and artificial intelligence. A typical application will be the quantification of uncertainty in measurements. Exact methods (when possible) will be presented, but also numerical and Monte Carlo based methods will be described.
