Summer student program at the Paul Scherrer Institut
Academic year 2023/24
Presently open positions: 2 Deadline for application: March 25th 2024 Who can apply: students with a bachelor in Physics How to apply: students can send a short curriculum vitae to cecilia.voena@roma1.infn.it
There are currently 2 open positions for students that want to spend a period as summer students at the Paul Scherrer Institut.
The length of the stay must be of 7 weeks during summer; an allowance will be paid to cover the travel and accommodation expenses.
The students will be mainly involved on hardware activities for muonEDM, a planned experiment, now in the construction phase at PSI, for the measurement of the muon electric dipole moment, in which the MEG Rome group is involved. A non zero muon electric dipole moment would be a sign of Physics beyond the Standard Model of Particle Physics. A series of tests with muon and pion beams is planned in 2024, and the students will be involved in the preparation of the detectors for such tests. It will mostly concern the preparation and characterization of scintillating counters with silicon photodetector readout, from hardware to data analysis. If the period of stay will comprise the second half of September, the students will be also involved in the activities with beams. The student may also be involved in activities related to the MEG II data-taking.
The selection will be done on the basis of the curriculum vitae only.
CV must include information about the bachelor degree ranking (laurea mark, exams average mark, list of exams) and on the exams taken during the master in Physics course (if available).
