research
My research activity has ranged over a variety of topics, usually within a theoretical and mathematical, sometime probabilistic, approach, also with the help of numerical techniques, but never neglecting phenomenological aspects. A common feature is the study of complex quantum systems, i.e., systems where the presence of (infinitely) many quantum degrees of freedom is the source of phenomena that do not occur at the classical level or for a few degrees of freedom. Paraphrasing the title of a famous paper by P.W. Anderson, more is different but quantum more is even more different. A list of keywords describing my research activity should include: quantum phase transitions, open quantum systems and quantum measurement theory, probabilistic methods for quantum many-body systems, quantum computing, chiral systems, quantum chaos, semiclassical limit, nonlinear Schrödinger equations, mesoscopic systems, quantum degeneracy in dilute gases, quantum noise in tunneling, Auger spectroscopy, stochastic resonance.
