Bridging of multiple scales by coarse-graining models: a critical overview.
One of the challenges in multiscale modeling techniques is the design of coarse-graining approaches that consistently bridge information across multiple length scales. In this seminar I will discuss a coarse-gaining approach, based on integral equation theory, which conveniently conserves structure and specific thermodynamic properties. This approach will be presented in the contest of a critical overview of the advantages and challenges of coarse-graining methods in general and of some specific, popular methods.
