LSPE

The LARGE-SCALE POLARIZATION EXPLORER is an experiment devoted to the precision measurement of the polarization of the Cosmic Microwave Background. Its target is the measurement of the faint polarized component generated in the very early universe, a split second after the big-bang, during cosmological inflation. The experiment uses the CMB as a tool to investigate cosmology and physics at ultra-high energies, larger than the grand-unification energy scale.

LSPE is an international effort with a strong Italian leadership. The experiment is composed of two instrument: the LSPE-STRIP, to beinstalled at the Teide Observatory in Tenerife operates at low frequency, while LSPE-SWIPE, operating at high frequency, is to be flown in the stratosphere during the Arctic night, with a long-duration stratospheric balloon. The experiment is funded by ASI and INFN.
